I backed up some data on a CD-RW media using Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 4. Unfortunately, when I tried to retrieve that data I found out that everything on that CD-RW is unreadable though all the file folders and file names are shown correctly in Windows Explorer. This same CD-RW acts up the same way on other CD-ROM readers that I tested.
So, I concluded that the data must have been corrupted. Does any one know how to fix this problem? Thanks.
Can you read the data on the drive you created the cd-rw with? Many cd-r drives can't read cd-rw disks.

Have you previously created data disks without errors? Also, have you updated the software for the burner lately? If you use an update that is not designed for your firmware version then you can get corrupt data. But then it might be just what was suggested and the drives cannot read CD-RW. Then we are back to question one. . .was this a first of many successes?

Thanks for your comments.
I no longer have the CD-RW drive that I wrote this CD-RW media with. I changed for the one with higher speed. However, this might not be relevant because the other CD-RW's that I made with the old drive don't have the same problem of corrupt data. I made a back up on 5 CD-RW's consecutively and only one turns bad.
I'd either visit the McAfee or Norton antivirus sites, both of which have recently updated their definitions,
update your virus definitions -
do a sweep of your drives and also do a sweep of the CD-RW which won't read anything but file structures.
In my experience, the file structure is written/burned in place first, and then the files themselves are burned.
Hopefully, you didn't propagate a virus within your system which attempted to migrate to your CD-RW during the file write phase.
Another thing which might have happened was dirty optics on the old drive.
Or it could have simply been that your CD-RW driver became cross-linked and all you need is a defrag.

There is no virus on the CD-RW according to Norton Antivirus 2000. The whole scan took 6 hours. Don't know why.
