HI,
I am running win95b and besides the DUN patch for windows 95 what are the "must have patches for win95b?...I plan on putting all the utilities and patches (VIA, Intel ) etc I have saved on zip cartridges to CD for more easier use but I want to get Win95b 's recommended patches together first before starting...Also any Linux mandrake info would be appreciated......Thanks again !

Breeze,
Here is the microsoft download page for windows 95. I would start with the "critical" reccomendations and the service packs. After that, what ever you think will improve your system depends on what you use it for.

Windows 95 Download Center (http://207.46.130.14/windows95/downloads/)

Sorry I got that backwards. I would start with the service packs, because they usually contain some of the other updates inside them.

Great idea though, wish I had a CD like that for myself with W-98 stuff and all my current drivers.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply..Win95 doesnt have the upgrade feature as W98 and having two computers this is a worth while project. I'll
let you know when I am done....
Thanks Breeze

Glad to help Breeze,
Actually it gave me a good idea for a rainy day project, been wanting to start fresh with a clean install for a while.
Don't have a CD burner but could put a bunch of that stuff on a zip or jazz disk to save time, then go to windows update to finish off what I missed. Only problem, no good rains this winter in So. Cal. LOL
Good Luck,
Dave

Wait a minute, Are you talking about Windows 95 not being able to use "Windows update"?

If win95 has an update feature like win98 where is it? I have always just added the patches....Oh well, having everthing on a portable disk would still be nice..Esp with a sick machine...
Thanks for the info

breeze,
You can use windows update with win 95.
I'm sure. I just fired up my trusty old
win 95 system to make sure. I hadn't used it in a year or so but it worked and I found some win 95 updates there that I never put in. (Like the Y2K fix for '95).LOL
Under Internet explorer/tools, look for windows update or go here.
Widows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/default.htm?page=productupdates)
The first time you need to download a short progrm "critical component installer",
it will either ask you by it's self, or if you get a "page cannot be displayed" notice there will be a link there for it.
Run the program in place, close IE and re-open it and go back to win. update site, it should work.
Note how it will show only updates specific to your system (win 95). It's a cool way to find out what updates you have not installed.

Hope this helps, note that sometimes it takes a few tries to get in the first time.
sometimes you may have to run the short set-up a couple times. once you get it to work, you should not have any more problems.

Dave made a important note here, it does take usually more than one try to get the "critical installer software" to take.. It appears to be a dos program and takes about .00001 nanoseconds to open, run and close. Also go to www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) and choose downloads, scroll down to the pertinant items and grab just what you need... hope this helps , DrVette

Last time I browsed the win95 patch notes, I remember reading that any win95 rvl with a letter on it wouldn't take/need the win95 patch out there.

Only things I recommend would be the win95 Y2K patch, a copy of win95 power toys with tweakui, and then stick with IE 4.02SP2 which is still in the IE download area last time I checked.

Then I go to specific OEM sites for *.inf file updates, BIOS flashes, and hardware driver updates.

Anyone with "specific" additional patches they are real happy with - I'd like to browse through their notes. Thanks
