Overclocking 333A to 500MHz. Suggestions?

I've got a retail Malaysian Celeron 333A with an Abit BH6 (latest BIOS), and 128MB PC100 SDRAM. My system is quite stable at 416MHz with a core voltage of 2.0. However, when I try to run it at 500MHz (5x100), when my system tries to reboot, I can see my monitor go into low power standby mode and my hard drive light is on. Not even pressing the power button will turn the system off; I have to pull the bloody power cord out! I've even attempted a voltage of 2.3 with the same results. Any ideas?

Um, try praying =).

Not to many 333's will go to 500mhz. That is why the 300a is so popular (most will go to 450mhz easy, some do take a bit of coaxing).

If you went from 2.0 directly to 2.3 volts, try all the voltages in between (2.05, 2.1, & 2.2). Also try it with the turbo mode at each voltage setting (ya never know..) I'm assuming your using a very thin layer of thermal grease (see O/C FAQ's on the site), and not the standard thermal tape? You'll want the best heatsink you can get for it (A VEK12, or FAB24 are good ones).

Also use conservative settings in your cmos (pio modes for HD's, and CAS3 for memory settings, etc...). It may just get you there, if your lucky.

If nothing seems to work, try to pawn off your 333 for a 300a at a reduced price (to someone who probably will never try to O/C it), or you might try the new 366 (SECC version) if you want to try for 550mhz.

Try a bios-update. In the first versions of award bios it was a known problem and was fixed in later versions. When u overclocked and your system does not boot and then u can't switch off there's nothing to do.
thats a problem of ur MB. and its the same on all other boards.
