try booting with the win98 floppy, and select boot with cd support.
if you dont have that go to bootdisk (http://www.bootdisk.com/) and get one.
then try running the setup from the cd, ie d:\win98\setup
good luck:)
Try to boot from the CD-ROM with your bootable Win98 CD. Try that. If your BIOS allows your cd-rom to be a boot device, then you shouldn't need cd-rom drivers.
P.S., cool upgrade to the forums:cool:

Are there lights on the cdrom? Are the cable connected the correct way? ie red stripe towards power plug and red stripe on pin one of the board?

1st thing you need to do is to work out that the CD-ROM drive does actually work. Can you try it in another computer or try a working one in this computer.
If it works in another then check the cables are installed properly and tightly. Red thread on cable points to 1 on the socket. As well as power cable in tight.
BTW Is does the hard disk work alright?
Also does your CDROM show up in the boot screen? if not you may have to go into the bios enable it by selecting 'Auto' for the IDE channel that you have installed the drive.
