I have a GVC FR520 motherboard (~BCM IN530) and an AMD K6-2 500Mhz processor. My BIOS version was 1.17 and after flashing the BIOS with FR520 BIOS ver 1.27 (obtained from the Packard Bell support site) I get the message "Checking NVRAM ..." and the sytem hangs and I cannot get into the CMOS setup. I have the IN530 bios (ver 1.28) which I now want to install (I believe this works). I have Windows98 SE loaded and 64mb RAM. How can I get my machine operational again?. Will clearing the CMOS do the trick and if so, what would be the exact steps in doing this?. Also, when the machine was up and running with BIOS ver 1.17, the response times were extremely slow, considering the processor speed and playing MP3's thru Winamp was very "jerky".

Clear the CMOS with the proper jumper with the power supply unplugged. Leave the jumper off for 10-20 seconds and then reset jumper to default/normal position. Plug in machine and reboot and go to setup again and disable the built-in antivirus and set to BIOS defaults and reboot. If all goes well from here then you can go back in to the CMOS and start tweaking what you want.
