While attempting to organize some spare hardware I had laying around, I dropped an internal Zip drive onto a concrete floor. The fall was only about 2 feet, and the drive seemed to survive with virtually no case damage (metal corner next to IDE connection very slightly bent, but easily unbent...no visible cracks anywhere). I have yet to hook it up to see if it truly survived. What's been your experiences in this area...what should I expect?

Unfortunately, I would expect the worst and then if the drive works, be surprised. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

When you do try it, don't use any of your disks that have valuable data on them.

Oh...and good luck.

You have a fifty fifty chance, if mainboard is good, you may have lost alignment on the heads though, try with a new disc and write something to it, and see if you can read back from disc, if you can take that disc to some one who has another zipo drive and see if it will read on theirs, if not you will have to get heads re-alined,
I have seen zips take one hell of a lot of punishment, we had an auction over here about 4 months ago , a whole lot of brand new Zip drives in boxes that looked like they had an aguement with afork lift, from what I can gather 99% proved to be good, ( the boxes looked like the drives would have been completely smashed up, cracked cases ect, but they worked fine.

So far, so good. System recognized it without a problem, and I read the text file that came on the 250 blank I bought. I'll try writing to it, but I think everything is ok.
