Ok, so I got win98 on my computer right now. I have heard rumors that installing w2k over it doesnt work out too well...is it true that they suggest startng clean? I know this is all speculation since its not even out yet...

Actually the install for W2K Professional is quite different than other MS operating systems so far. There are some aspects I like of it (just so you know, I have the beta 3 release). It actually looks at your hardware & software first and gives you a report to let you know if there are any problems before anything is installed. If so, it will list them and tell you what you need to do in order to try and get that device to work.

Keep in mind there aren't too many apps that are designed for W2K Professional so far.

If you are considering dual booting between that and 98 in the same partition, it can cause some compatibility problems with Outlook express and mediaplayer, as the NT5 files that get written into program files are not compatible with the 98 versions.

If you do a dual boot to another partition, it works great since W2K will create a program files directory of it's own on it's partition, thereby not interferring with 98's files.

If you simply upgrade the 98 installation to W2K, it works pretty good also.

Hi BBA!

I actually had a good install with the upgrade. I'm normally against doing that, but I thought I had nothing to lose. The upgrade went fine. But 98 don't have a whole lot installed on it while being a rather fresh install.

I just installed the Win 2000 Pro final release in my friends computer. It is quite awesome, seeing that I've not seen this before. I've ran numerous tests with this, and appears to be completly stable. And like you, I installed over Win 98, installed without a hitch. Any other questions, give me a holler.
