Hi everyone, I was told this was a good friendly forum and this is my first post here. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have an Imation LS-120 as my floppy drive. I have never had a problem with it but just the other day I noticed that in Explorer and My Computer I have two floppy drives displayed. This was never like this before. I don't even know when it happened so it is not like I can back track and uninstall an application. What happens is that the one listed as B: will access the drive, which normally I could access from the A: indicator. But the other icon displayed as A:, when I click on this I my Westell DSL modem program brings up a "Find Modem" message, after which I get a error message stating unable to read drive A:.

Does anyone know what is going on and how I can backtrack to correct this problem?

Thanks
W Smith

I've got the same problem on one of my old computers. I was told to either replace the floppy drive cable, or get a new drive. Changing cables didn't work for me so.....

BTW, Welcome to SysOpt!

Have you looked in Device Manager to see if it is showing two floppy drives there? (Right click My Computer, select Properties, Device Manager tab.) If so, I'd try removing them both, restart Windows, and see if things get sorted out with Windows re-detecting hardware.

That is the other wacky thing. In Device Manager, under Floppy Drive Controler is the Standard Floppy Disk Controller as has always been. Under Disk Drives I have listed:

Generic IDE Disk Type 47 (the hard drive)
Generic NEC Floppy Disk
Mat****a LS-120 VER 5 00

These setting have always been like this and there are no other floppies displayed. The Generic NEC is to mimic the capabilities of a 1.44 from the superdisk drive. However, I did remove both as suggested and Windows re-detected them but did not correct the drive letter problem.
