I'm booting my PIII machine to windows NT4.0 sp6, and I get this message that my Kernel is missing. This is happening very early in the boot process. I'm not even getting to the option to hit the space bar or safe mode.

Basically the problem started when I was listening to a CD for about a minute and then the sound cut out for now apparent reason. So I tried a few things to get it back but I could see no logical reason for the sound cutting out. Then suddenly again for no logical reason the hard drive started make a grinding noise and the system became unstable so I shut down and rebooted.

When I rebooted I got the message that my Kernel was missing. So I tried to boot from myNT Cd and us my repair disk. The process seemed to be successful but I still got the kernel message.

Now I know that the hard drive is not damaged because I am using it now. I have a dual boot on my PC and now I am using ME to write this plea for help. Perhaps I didn't go through the right steps using the repair disk. Does anyone have any insight? Is this a virus?
Please help
