Although I can set the proper specs for my hard drive, each time I boot - the BIOS reports the wrong settings....

Is there somoe way of forcing my settings to stay in the BIOS

It's driving my OS crazy!

I don't think the bios is going to report wrong setting... at least I haven't come across any that did. If you set it to "auto" it will detect the effective setting. The settings are typically written in the, if you will, "HD bios". The HD send the information to the bios of your board.

Not sure why your CMOS won't hold your user settings, but...
You are not alone. I had an old Maxtor 1.7Gb disk that would display bad sectors in a pattern. On a hunch I decided to enter the parameters manually. No more bad sectors!
I used the disk until I gave it away with no other problems!
