Will it cause any problem if the hard disk(s) is physically disconnected from the system before flashing the BIOS? This approach will eliminate the possibility of any virus residing on the hard disk(s) interfering with the flash process. In fact, I would like disconnect everything from the motherboard except what is essential for flashing the BIOS. It probably means only a floppy drive, monitor and power unit will remain attached to the motherboard.

Hi,
I don't think that should give you any problem. Why not run a virus scan before flashing?

Yeah, you can disconnect everything and have just the essential devices such as video card and floppy disk drive when upgrading your BIOS...

Sure, you could disconnect the hard disk. All you need is a floppy drive, ram, cpu and the things that allow your computer to boot. You may even disconnect the monitor. You don't really need it as well.
But I question your wisdom. You're disconnecting your hard disk for fear of a virus in it that would interfere with the flash process. Wouldn't it be better to scan it for virus and get rid of the infection instantly because it is the right thing to do. Surely, this is more logical than flashing the BIOS, attach the hard disk only to discover that you really do have a virus on your hard disk. Odd sense of logic but one man's meat is another's poison.
To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
