I have a window appearing on my start up screen, which appeared out of no where!.I have hunted through the Registry, Win.ini,
autoexec. startupfiles, sys.ini and cannot find a reference to it anywhere. This is a small window listed with the name INSTALL,below that is the following "DEMO INSTALLATIONS ONLY RUN ON THE COMPUTER THEY WERE CREATED ON" (OK)---
By clicking on the Ok this window will clear. Clicking on the INSTALL title at the top of this window changes the appearance of the word Install, no other changes.
This is a nuisance and not really a problem
but it has stirred up my interest or challenge to do away with it. Thanks.

Try a program called Startup Cop. It will show you all the programs that are loading at startup from about six different areas including the registry, startup folder, etc. and allow you to disable any of them. You can download it here: http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,10615,77594,00.html
I hope this helps http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Have you checked the RunOnce registry key, or the RunOnceEx or any of those? Sometimes if something is in there and doesn't finish properly the item stays in the registry instead of being deleted after the Once part is over.

Thanks for the replies to pesky screen on the startup. Unfortunately it is still there after trying all of the suggestions. I liked the new program "Startu Cop" and went through the RunOnce information. Anymore ideas will be thoroughly checked out.

Any window should be able to be viewed as a "PROCESS" by viewing the list of programs available when hitting the CTRL-ALT-DEL combination.
The Title of the window will appear in the list of programs running. By noting the order of programs in this list you may get a clue as to where in the boot sequence it is loading.
Also use the Windows utility "System Information".
Click on SoftwareEnvironment --> 32 bit modules and you should see a detailed list of the memory modules loaded. YOu can get useful clues about everything loaded in your computer from this. Let me know what you find. It really shouldn't be that difficult to hunt down the offending file.
