Seems that the City of Arlington,s recreation department computers weren't Y2K - it's one of the city's largest departments.

They can't even open their cash drawers and are doing everything on paper tickets until it's fixed. They appear to be on an old IBM system.

At least it wasn't the traffic control system....

Axel, after driving there sometimes, I think that's indeed how they do it. That or the coin flip method.

Hey Axel, do you get to clean up the mess?

It simply amazes me that no one thought to check those systems out.

All I say is it's a pity it wasn't the system that handle parking fines. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Its also a pity it wasnt a Parole office, then maybe some innocent prisoners would get out early....

Nope - it's not mine to fix, for a change....

I've never been to anyplace where the traffic control system worked well.

WW - given how the city engineers lay out roads, especially highway access, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the rec dept. computers did handle the traffic fines.
The police force, however, is top notch - most, if not all of the officers have a college education which, in my experience, helps in life in general.

I was really surprised, myself, because the rec dept. is one of the best in the nation given the size. We have more park land per capita than most cities our size.

And Arlington is the largest urban city with no public transportation - a feature I like to some extent. - May I have the wisdom to park my car should I lose the ability and reflexes to drive it well, or should I ever , ever come to the conclusion that one of the perminantly attached mirrors is there for cosmetic reasons, if you know what I mean. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif but that's off on a tangent - too much caffine today.

over here we don't have trafic cops any more, just ordanary police, and parking fines are done by local coucils, our cops are well educated, but as for council officials, I sometimes wonder if they could pass the sub A school level let alone school cert, our city which is quite small has over 600 perm employees in offices, and thats after they have got rid of all lower grades and maintainance work to sub contract companies. across the Manukau Harbour at the back of us is a council that cover an area about 2/3 of our city and they have under 30, no wonder we pay the highest rates in New Zealand per City. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
