Hi everybody!

I am having some problems with a Packard Bell I am working on. (Say it aint so!)

There was a combo sound/ modem in the system when the modem was hit with a power surge. It killed the card. I replaced the modem with no problem, but replacing the Sound has been difficult. The drivers keep being 'lost' when I reboot. i am trying to install an Ensoniq Audio PCI. When I installt he drivers, sound works fine. On reboot, in DOS, it says it cannot find the device "Cannot detect PnP sound card/ Please check that the card is properly inserted/ if problem persists call tech support". Any ideas?

Packard Bell C115 (P120)
no resource conflicts
PCI sound (trying to install)
ISA Zoom modem
Win 95

Thanks
Dave

Try changing the "PnP OS" option in the bios to the oposite of what it is set at now. Reboot in safe mose and remove all references to the sound card in device manager. Reboot again and reinstall. Best of luck to you http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

There are two PCI slots and I tried both. Same results.

I will try going into Safe Mode. I will let you know how things go...

Thanks
Dave

Try different drivers. Heres a link to your sond card driver on your manufacturers website - http://www.soundblaster.com/drivers/welcome.asp?reg=0&os=win95&prod=sb_ensq&Select=Get+Files&x=69&y=13

Hope this works.

Thanks Azza. I got the latest drivers and they seemed to have no affect. I tried two cards (SB 16 PCI and Ensoniq Audio PCI) with both the retail cd drivers and the latest CL drivers to no avail.

Thanks
Dave

Forget i said that!! You already stated there are no conflicts!!
Tried deleting the line which points to your audio card at boot in config.sys????

Check your autoexec.bat & config.sys
See if there is any reference to any old sound cards in there.

Was the soundcard/modem combo that fried and ISA or PCI card?
If it was a PCI card, are you trying to install the sound card in the same PCI slot that the combo card was in?

Know what? Never mind what I just said. It just occured to me that the combo cards are ISA.

Does the soundcard show up as an unknown device in your device manager?
