I built two PC's last night as below...

Athlon 1.3 (133)coolermaster HS with arctic silver
Abit KT7A (one is raid but not used yet)
256M pc133 ram
Hercules 64 M Kyro II
IBM 40.1G HDD
LG 52x CD

plus the usual.

One of them, the one with raid, booted up with no problems, loaded Win98se, all fine.
But, there is allways a but, the other wont boot at all, the psu starts, all fans start (psu, cpu, system chip, vga card), then it turns itself off, total on time... about half a second.
I have checked the CPU insertion, tried without anything connected, even the VGA card, no difference.
It must be the CPU, memory, or psu, question is which. I am reluctant to swap CPU's, obviously.

Where do I go now??, just about to swap ram.

edit...... its not the ram http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Check for a short between the case and the motherboard.

Update, assuming anyone has read this... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Tried two other PSU's same thing, just on for about half a sec.

What would I expect to see if I powered up the MB on its own, no proc, no nuffin else ??

Would the missing proc mask a possible MB fault?

Thanks Speedo, I always wonder whether to put the fibre washers between board and srcrew or board and support, not enough to do both, so I use it like a normal washer, under the screw head.
I will give it a go with the board totally isolated.

make sure you have the CPU fan plugged into the fan1 headder on the motherboard. Those abits have some kinda goofy safety feature like that

Two things to check!

1 is the CCMOS1 jumper on pins 1&2 ?

2 do you have an ATA/66 cable with the blue end connected on the Motherboard ?

Dokeman,

TEN BROWNIE POINTS

That was it !!

The raid board didnt care but the non raid one needs it in fan 1 !!!

One to remember.

Well done, and thanks.
