Question 1:
1. PCI or ISA?
My cable company has a special deal when buying their packaged ISA card, would it be wise to opt for PCI card on my own instead?

2. what brand of ethernest that I should be looking for in the interes of performance AND price?

I used to hold USR in highest esteem and was willing to pay premium for the expected service befitting such "premium". But ever since their crappy, nonexistent support for my USR modem, it's effectivelly become my last choice, unless there's something absolutely compelling in their products.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I like 3com Fast Etherlink cards. Am suprised that your cable company doesn't include one with their install.

Get a PCI card! Any PCI card is better than any ISA as far as 10mbps eithernet goes (cable modems are only 10mbps based). As for brand, I like 3com, or if you are in a bind, just go generic, I have gotten them for under $4 localy, new!

Mediaone used to include PCI NIC's with their package deal. THen they changed to ISA NIC's...not due to cost, but due to compatibility! Seems a lot of older off brand chipset boards don't work so well with PCI NIC's and that caused a big loss of tech time on the install.

They really like the fact that new integrated PC's come with them built in already!

I second the D-Link 528. Excellent card, and is detected in every OS i've tried.
