Hello all, I built my 1st PC from scratch:

Athon 1ghz/266MHZ.....not o/c
512 MB PC 133 ram
30gb WD HD
Visiontek Geforce MX400 54mb
SoundBlaster Live! Platinum
TDK VeloCDWriter 16/40/32
Netgear NIC
Windows 98SE

It had been running flawlessly for about a month. Last night, it suddenly froze, and upon resetting, it wouldn't load past the Windows splash page.

It rebooted in safe mode, disabled everything [COM ports, drives, NIC, etc]. Rebooted and enabled them one by one......

Everything appeared to be working fine again, for about 12 hours. Now it is randomly freezing and unfreezing.....It isn't locking up, just 'stop and go'.

One RAM stick or two?

If two, pull one out and run for a while, If it still locks, then chances are the one remaining is faulty. Swap it with the one you pulled out earlier and run like that for a while. If problem seems to be gone, then its a faulty stick, if problem is still there, swap out both sticks with another and run that for a bit.

When was the last time you ran a virus scan?

If you leave your machine running all the time, Check your resources and see if they are low.
Do you defrag often?

Sorry, forgot about the MOBO:

Epox 8kta3

I defrag my hard drive everyday, as the PC is left on 24/7. It didn't freeze up at all yesterday, so maybe it was an isolated incident?
