Have just reformatted my hard drive and reloaded Windows 98.On bootup the system keeps showing that windows has found new hardware, a PnP Sound Chip. Have tried to load the drivers from Windows but keeps telling me it cannot find the drivers.
Not exactly sure of the M/B, but it is old 166MMX system. Given the fact that the system is running a sound card which is working, I have sound.

1) Can someone tell me if the PnP Sound chip is on the M/B and am I able to disable it through BIOS.
2) How can I identify the PnP Sound Chip so that I can locate drivers for it.

Thankyou

If you have a soundcard plugged into the MoBo.
then you should check your bios to see if onboard sound is enabled on the MoBo, If so disable it.

This is an old system I have just bought to muck around with. Just tried to go to BIOS and it is password protected. Will pull the CMOS Battery and try and clear that password and then have a look.
