I have a DFI P2XBL rev A motherboard of
1998 vintage (slot one), I went to upgrade
the processor from a P-II 300 to a P-III 750
but didn't have the ne processor completely
seated when I turned the power back on.
Screen was blank, but went I went to shut
the power off from the front of the case it
woouldn't shut off, had to use the switch or
pull power cord from the back of the case.
Reseated the processor and had the same thing happen, then tried putting in the old
P-II processor and the same thing happened.
I hope I haven't fried the processors, any
ideas about what is hosed up here?
I have an enlight ATX case with a 250watt
power supply.
Power comes up and you can see the drive
lights come on and hear the hard drive power up, but the keyboard and monitor are not
working.
Don't remember hearing any beep codes either.

A little update, I found that holding the
power switch down for several seconds does
make the PC power down, still have no lights
on the keyboard and the monitor only shows
that it's self test worked okay (gateway ev900).
The fans on the case and processor both
come on and when hitting the rest button you
can see the drive lights on the cdrom and cdrom burner flashing.
I pulled the power cord from the back of the case but left it plugged into the surge
proctector and then reconnected it after
putting in the new processor, I've done this
many times before when adding components and
not had any problems, but noted in another
posting here that someone had fried an asus
motherboard doing that. This is a DFI P2XBL
rev A of 1998 (june) vintage.

If you're saying your old processor didn't boot either, it's time to seek for new motherboard http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

P.S. Before that, try clearing CMOS with jumper or by removing battery ...

Best Regards ...
