My son has a ASUS P5A w/ a K6II 400Mhz and 128MB. A couple of month ago he did not get the grades in school that he needed, so I disconnected his HD and power supply.

Two weeks ago (after he picked up his grades) I went to put his machine back to work, AND TO MY SURPRISE...
It doesn't boot.
No Screen, no beep sounds, no nothing.
The power supply and CPU fans fire up fine, but the power button only turns it ON. It will not shut it off. I have to turn off the power switch on the back of the Power supply. Also I downloaded and read the article "Troubleshooting a Dead/Unbootable PC" (May 19) and followed it but nothing happened.
Please help...

youre going to have to most likely get your hands dirty. you might have a dead system board on your hand. it happened with mine. unfortunately since atx retains power i plugged the cord into the rear of the box (power supply) while the other end was still in the surge protector and killed my asus p3bf. luckily its still under warranty for another year as yours might be. call asus.
if you feel confident pull out all cards so all you have left is nothing but the memory, cpu, and ram. try booting. if nothing it most likely is a dead board, or cpu(unlikely the latter). usually when the fans spin on the power supply, the power supply isnt the problem.
you could always try a new video card first.
good luck and post back.

Bobcats right, it may be your battery. If you battery is bad, system will power up but nothing on screen. You may want to let computer run for 10 minutes even with nothing on screen and then reboot.....the battery will sometimes recharge itself for next bootup. One of my old computers was that way. Doesn't holding button down for 5 sec. shut off your system?

If your board is 3-5 years old the battery could have bitten it. This will keep the machine from posting. Try that first before you get another board.

all i can say is check all the connections inside youre case eg hd ides psu processor and check if the graphixs card is inserted properly.
