My Windows installation history is DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win 95 upgrade, Win 98 upgrade. MSD reports this as Windows 3.10 Enhanced Mode, System Properties\Performance reports File System 32-bit, and Virtual Memory 32-bit. It doesn't say 'FAT-32' as I've seen on FAT 32 converted drives. FDISK /STATUS says I'm using 84% of my HDD(2047 of 2437). Is my HDD 32 bit? Should I convert to FAT-32 ?

Hi!

If you are currently using FAT 16 and have no problems than I think it is ok if you make the switch. If you have many partitions and are using a drive overlay program then it would be better not to convert the first hard disk to fat 32. The rest can be converted to FAT 32 though. I once did it and my OS wouldn't load. So it really is a matter of preference, I only noticed a marginal difference in performance. The 32-bit thing you keep on seeing will not interfere with your hard disk. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

If you have a large hd (partition) you should, fat32 has a lot smaller cluster size than fat16 thus it would decrease the slack of the drive.

actually its a small HDD as today's HDD's go. only 2.59GB, but I'm only able to use 2.1GB. its an old system, 133MHz. I do have an overlay program d\l'ed from Western Digital, but not sure that I should use it. You say I should? That will give me the 400Mb I'm unable to get to? And is 3.10 Enhanced Mode 16-bit?
