Are DSL modems proprietary? If I get x-brand modem, will it work with Mindspring DSL or whomever's DSL signal? I have heard that they are. I guess this topic is of no immediate relevance to me since I don't have any service here in Chas. but... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks-

Can't be absolutely certain on this but, I would guess not, at least not at this stage.
Problem is that the DSL/CABLE ISP usually supports everything up to the modem (including lightning damage), so I wouldn't expect support for use of another manufacturers modem.
Unless it's part of your service contract, I would not buy one of these modems just because I could, it may be a waste of money as it could be useless by the time the service is available.
