Hey folks. Don't let anyone tell you that your Mboard doesn't make that much difference. I changed over from a ALi chipset Slot1 board to an Abit BH6 and my Quake2 framerate went from 46 to 85! The ONLY component that was different was the board--same SDRAM, same Cel400A, same Monster3d-II SLI. I will never go cheap on a motherboard again, EVER.

I don't think it's so much a motherboard issue as the chipset issue. The BX is pretty much the best Slot 1 chipset out there. The alternative Slot 1 chipsets are notorious for poor AGP performance.
What was your main graphics board? That's probably the biggest performance difference between you two rigs.

Hey. My main Graphics board was a 2x AGP ATI Rage Pro Turbo. Its not in the system now that I have changed to a board with more PCI slots. I am now using a PCI Rendition V2200 card, so that I can run G+ Eurofighter 2000 (Voodoo2 SLI will not run EF2k). The Quake2 framerates I mentioned above were on the V2 SLI, though, not on the AGP card.
The mobo does matter. My Abit BX6 V2.O outperforms its predecessor, the BX6.

I never said the mobo didn't matter. Obviously it matters. My initial idea chalked up the performance difference between Ali's slot 1 and Intel's BX. Most people know about these performance differences. However I was wrong in this case and Lawton probably had a shoddy motherboard with the ALi chipset.
