I have a problem w/ my 1.44 floppy drive. There was once I pulled out the floppy cable attached to the mainboard, after attaching it back, I am unable to use my floppy drive. The light is on and the drive's running but whatever disks I placed in, it just prompt me over and over again to insert a disk thou there was one in it!
Anyway I thought it was a hardware failure so I swapped drive w/ my other PC, still the same error prompt.
To my dismay, when I attached the OK floppy drive back to my other PC, it started to show me error too! *groans*
It just keep on telling me to format my drive A: whenever I tried to run my diskette in it.
I've run out of ideas to fix these 2 floppy drives w/ 2 different errors for weeks. Is there anything I can do which I didn't? BIOS? CMOS setup?
Please advice. Thanks.

If the floppy light stays on all the time during boot reverse the cable connection on your motherboard, Try this first and see if it helps!!!

the part of the cable with the little twisted piece has to be connected to the floppy, the other end needs to be placed on the mobo

hmm... so the light is supposed to be there only when there is a disk in it?

the light is supposed to be working only when there is a disk in it AND it is being accessed

The "twist" should be on the end that connects to the floppy drive, and the colored wire represents pin-1. If you look carefully, you should see pin-1 specified on both the motherboard and the back or the floppy drive.

... and yes, the floppy light should only be on when the disk is actually being accessed.

If you have the cable attached correctly, try replacing the cable altogether.

Hey guys, doesn't work either way. The cable is connected correctly. It's still saying the device is not ready. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

And I did replaced w/ a cable that works fine.

and did you install all via drivers etc . (via4in1 etc .. ?)
