yeah,,mp3's will continue to play when a system freezes because they are already loaded up in the ram....i think. When you were using win2k before, was it under the same environment? same software/hardware combinations? what progs are running at startup? You could try removing your programs one by one and see if the problems disappear. Once you have removed all of your third party software from your windows installation, and the problem still exists, then start removing hardware. First start with your modem, if you have one, then remove soundcard, or disable if onboard. Disable all your serial and parallel ports in bios as well as DMA. Perhaps even remove one or two sticks of ram if possible. If the problem still exists,,then perhaps you could check to see if there is an updated BIOS for your machine, and ensure that your vid card is running the most recent drivers. If all else fails, reformat and reinstall. Assuming the problem doesn't occur with a fresh install of windows, then you could begin adding your hardware and software piece by piece and hopefully, it will be apparent which thing was causing the freeze, if it comes back at all.

Ya, this is the exact same computer, no hardware changes, and I've never had the problem occur before. Also, the software is the same too. I'm not sure what happened. I guess I might just have to reformat...

I recently went back to Win2kPro from ME, didn't like ME at all. But my point being is that I went back to Win2kPro. I formated both drives to NTFS, but it is randomly freezing every once in a while. I haven't noticed any patern. It ussually happens when I click on soemthing. It doesn't happen too often either, maybe a couple times a day, but that's still too much. It's never happened to me before, and I can't narow it down to one program either. I installed all the updates of the Windows Update site including Service Pack 2. The funny thing about the freezing though is that I can put any input in through the mouse or keyboard and nothing on my monitor changes, but if I'm listening to mp3's or something when it happens, the music will keep playing, it doesn't stop... Weird eh? So, the CPU's still working, and a few things are still functioning, I just can't interact with my system http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Has anyone heard of anything like this happening? Or am I gonna have to reformat already... Let me know what you guys think. Thanx a lot.
