Litestep...opinions & suggestions, please

i think i want to try this shell, but i want to know as much about it as i can before installing it.

Litestep sounds a lot like part of my Linux install.

No comment about Litestep, but I did try the split off IE40 from Win98 trick, as described in "Optimizing Your Shell" and it worked surprizingly well. Everything seems a little faster but there are a couple of issues that they did not mention in the article.

After replacing the 5 items in Win98 with Win95 files:

1. IE40 favorites no longer works - not a problem Netscape works fine

2. Every time the computer is booted the Welcome to Win98 song-and-dance screen comes up and the disable check box doesn't disable it - also not a biggie since using "find" I just removed all the related Welcome.exe files and such.

Hey augi,It works pretty well,try this link before you do it though.This guys has made custom .inf files that made this shell swap a breeze!If you don't like it he even has an undo file.This turns a painstaking process into one of ease.It does not use the litestep shell,but it does allow for deintegration of explorer and lets you use the win95shell with the win98 interface.I have done it and it works like a charm!Faster to!Also this guy has links to all the win98 updates without going to the win98 update site!
