I have deleted task monitor from my regitry via Jammer and via Fix-It Utilities and it is not listed there as an option for loading at startup but it is still there! Why is this and how do I get rid of it permanently?
It was gone for good before I patched the security holes in Win98SE via the M$ updates. Also, can I get rid of Hiserv.exe and OSA9.exe (Office 2K startup)?
Thanks-Dave

Go to accessories/system tools/system information
bring down the tools box and click on system configuration/startup and uncheck the box

Hey Dave,

Have you tried turning it off via msconfig?
(You probably know already, go to Start->Run->type "msconfig")

Although if it has been truly removed from the registry, it shouldn't even show up under "Startup"...

I found out it is tied to my Office 2K item that is still loading in my sys tray. I disabled it and they both went away. Thanks to both of you.

Can I get rid of hidserv.exe though? i don't know what it does.
Thanks-Dave

I have removed osa 9.exe, with no problems. Actually, could not see any improvements with it running. (supposed to make office programs start faster).

Thanks DaveH. I actually use Office so little that I wouldn't mind it being a little slower if my system had more resources. Glad to hear it will be ok though.
Thanks-
Dave

I would check out hidserv to see when it was loaded on your comp...I don't have it so that doesn't mean much..but it sounds weird to say the least

hidserv also had something to do with the task monitor. I thought it was gone bt only had it deleted when the hidserv.exe was cleared form startup. Thanks for the help.
