I'm working on a Compaq Presario 5240. I used their quick restore disk to re-install win98 on the machine. I gave it back to my customer, he took it home and tried to install his printer ( Canon Multipass C3500 )and the comp crashed. It now spontaneously re-boots all the time. I've tried to re-install the OS numerous times and it will re-boot at least once during the install. I'd like to try to install the OS w/o the Compaq disk but I can't find the sound driver for the hardware intergrated on the mobo. If someone can help with the re-booting problem or maybe tell me how to find the drivers for video and sound off the quick restore cd that'd be great too.
specs:
Compaq Presario 5240
AMD k6-2/400 mhz
Rage LT Pro 2x agp 3d graphics (intergrated on mobo)
Yamaha XG 128 voice wavetable sound (intergrated on mobo)
64 mb RAM

Most of the spontaneous reboots I have had experience with were due to CPU over-heating or bad power. Check to make sure neither of those is the case.

I bought one of those cans of compressed air with the long nozzle on it and blew out the power supply. So far that seems to have made it more stable, I'll do some more checking but I think that did it. Thx for your help Target

I dont know if this will hold any water but someone else i know with a compaq had the same problem and when they reinstalled everything they left out the printer driver for the canon printer and it supposedly worked.
