I just picked up a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI off ebay.
I uninstalled my Banshee (AGP) and set it to standard VGA drivers (Win 98 SE)
When I boot. It gets to the pretty windows screen it locks up and the screen goes black. But it works in safe mode. I have a Gigabyte 5 AX Mobo using the ALI Aladdin V Chipset. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

have you tried removing the drivers from safe mode, then reinstalling them?
Check if there's IRQ assigned to videocard in BIOS.
Best Regards ...

I had the same problem with a Voodoo3 pci in one of my Petium pro 200mhz systems. Upon reboot after install it would lock up and only boot to safe mode I was using 1.07 drivers. I posted here and found a older version driver (1.04 I think). Look at this link for location of driver.

Then go to www.omegacorner.com (http://www.omegacorner.com) and look at the 3DFX Help Page under the 3DFX link. There is a section that tells you how to remove the old drivers . Ultimately I think it was the version of tools with 1.07 that caused my problem

If you do get it to work-
For drivers, I've had my best luck at: http://www.3dxtreme.org
I'm pretty sure they come with the appropriate 3dfx Tools.

In the BIOS you need to change "Init Display" to "PCI" as opposed to "AGP". That may be part of the problem but I bet the main problem is how you changed the vid drivers which can be very tricky at times. The first thing you want to do is boot to "Safe Mode" and remove anything referring to the old card in the "Add /Remove Programs" section of "Settings/Control Panel". Then you want to change the display type to "Standard VGA" and when it says re-boot click "NO" and shut off your machine and change out the card. As it's re-booting is where you need to go to the BIOS and change from AGP to PCI video. Of course, the proper proceedure for changing out the card was more than likely in a text file on the driver disk that came with the vid card. Now you probably need to go to their troubleshooting section and see what you can find.
