It sounds like the .wav extension is associated with QT rather than MediaPlayer, or whatever you want to use. Go to Find: *.wav Then Right Click + Shift and then hit Open With.. From there you can reassociate your wavs to an app of your choosing. You will have the option to check: "Always use this program to open this type of file". Hope I understood your question correctly.
