I'm looking at CDRW's. I have a gateway computer. They want to install a phillips 4x4x16 IDE that I can't find any info. for, so I think it's an outdated product. So, I was thinking about getting the HP8200e instead (4x4x6x). But, will a CDRW that hooks up to the USB work just as good as an internal one. I looked also at the Plextor internal SCSI (it's pricey). Can you recommend one? I really don't think I need all the read speed. I also heard Ricoh had a good one. So I am confused, If the 8200e USB is just as good, it sure is easier to install. Thanks

CDR Zone (http://CDRZone.com/) might be of some help, although I'm not sure how updated they are.

I use a plextor SCSI CD-R at work and it works great. A guy down the hall has a Plextor CD-RW and he is pleased with it also.

you will find that the phillips work just fine...most all problems with any burner are software related..

Thanks! I also have a couple of questions. One CRW that I was looking at supported many file formats when writing, including UDF & ISO. That would be better?? Also, can you put a CD in your main drive and directly copy it to the CDRW drive without uploading to your computer? Is that a software issue? If so, is there a technical name for that.... and do most of the software packets have that?

As long as you have two cd drives (CD-RW and CD-ROM) you can copy drive to drive w/o copying ot the hdd, although, if you check the options to copy to hdd it, does improve perfomance.

I have used packet writing to backup my files but can NOT be read by regular cd rom. This also confirm by Philips Technical support.
You have to use copying data option in order to be read by other cdrom drive. You also need at least 20mb free space to close the session.
