I have a aopen ax59pro and amd k6-2 350 box.
i do mostly winnt(2k soon), matlab and scientific computing.
Which is best for me: upgrade only the cpu to a k6-3 450 and overclocking it or buy a celeron and new mobo and oc it?
TIA

If your going with a Celeron you better go with the BP6 and dual CPU (get the speed you want). Yo already have Win NT and it does support smp so you'll see a big improvement with dual cel. You can overclock with the bp6. (BUS speed up to 133mhz)

I have a k6-II 400 running stable at 550 and I cant fault her at all, she's been a great chip. But if it were me in your shoes I'd take a serious look at the dual celeron boards, even if you only use one chip you can alway buy another and have it running dual processors...thats my next step http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Celerons clock well too - get yourself a C366 if you can still find them, apparently most of them do 550 no problems. Imagine 2 of them running side by side! The stuff of which orgasms are made(nearly!)
