I'm an owner of a AMD 1.333GHz CPU, Asus A7A266 with 512M DDR. Everything is heaven right? nope.

The machine seems very unstable. I double click on a folder and usually my mouse freezes for 4 seconds while the os reads that folder which only BTW has 3 small files in it.

It seems almost impossible to click only once on web item as sound (Onboard) stutters 4 or 5 times.

I've flashed the board with latest and also updated all the drivers... hmmm.

Help...please.. please

Hmmm. First, did you tweaked your BIOS?? I think that's the first thing it should be done. Memory settings, drive settings (enable UltraDMA), video card settings, etc. ! In Plug n Play OS select NO.!

Start from there.!

Do you have a Via Chipset?? If so, did you install the 4 in 1 drivers?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll check the bios for plug and play.

UDMA is enabled.

The chipset is AliMagic that doesn't use the 4-1 drivers (non via).. I believe.

Which operating system are you using?

Is your power supply on AMD's recommended list for the 1.33GHz Athlon? Is your Ram 200MHz or 266MHz DDR, and is the mobo set appropriately?

More information please. How many and what kind of IDE devices. Type of graphics card, sound card, Ethernet card, and/or modem. Any other add/in cards. USB peripherals?

And OS and power supply as others have asked.

What is running in the background when this occurs? Do you have AV software installed, or something like Norton SystemWorks?

The first thing I would try is to move the Dlink Ethernet card to another PCI slot.

Are you in the habit of keeping a CD in one of the CD drives? This can definitely slow down file browsing in Windows Explorer or My Computer.

How are the OSes setup? And how is the pagefile for Win2000 and the swap file for Windows 98SE setup?

Does this problem occur in each OS?

Is that one 512mb DDR stick? If it isn't, then swap them around, use only 1, see if that helps. If it is, then download a memory testing program to see if it is stable. I know we used to get tons of flaky 512's in the sdram flavor.
