scandisk restarting 10 times.

I was running scandisk and it started 10 times without completing successfully. I shutdown everything except systray and exployer. Could someone please tell what is causing the restarts when there is nothing running in the background. I do not have a virus protection program on my system. Thanks in advance for all help.

are you in safe mode when you defrag. the defrag that windows 9x comes with is junk. but try going into safemode. Might help tho i doubt it because everytime i tried it kept restarting

I agree with GroundZero, try going into safe mode when booting. Then run defrag. After it's done then Reboot back to normal mode.

I have heard from several people that this fixed it for them....
