Hello, I seem to be missing a mouse. I cannot get Windows to recognise my mouse. I tried using it in Dos Edit to no avail as well. I just bought this comp second hand. When I went to purchase it everything checked out. All I purchase however, was the tower. When I got home I found that the mouse needed an adapter. I've got an adapter, but my system still refuses to recognise my mouse. The guy I bought it from moved away so I cannot ask him about it.
I have followed the advice in the following two threads: http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/009248.html
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/008733.html
Still, my mouse is not recognised. Any help would be appreciated. *Also* My adapter is female, 9 pins. Curiously, on the package it reads 6 pins. Anyone know why that is?
Radio Shack dude says there is only one standard adapter for mice. Is this true, could my mouse need an adapter for a different port?

P.S. I would *much* rather be a guru answering questions than a newbie with plenty of them.

Why not save yourself the hassle of fixing an olld mouse, and buy a new one for $15.00?

I would love it if things were that simple, but the mouse is not the problem here. I've tried three different mice, one of them is off the comp that I am currently on (which certainly works). Ergo the problem lies where I don't know.

UPDATE: I figured out why everyone refers to the adapters as 6 pin. The male part of the adapter had 6 pins! The female end of the adapter had 9 pins ... Man am I good!

Hi ho Hi ho, it's off to the comp shop I go. I've tried everything half a dozen times. Maybe I'll find an adaptor that has 15 or 20 pins. I think I'm just going to try reinstalling Winblows . . . HEY! there's an idea!

Ummm... That would entail having a CDrom installed... Guess I'll have to go buy one. Hi ho Hi ho.

I would suggest getting a mouse that matches the port you're using instead of using an adapter. Sometimes those just dont work on some setups. I had the same thing happen with an older system when using an adapter. The mouse worked fine one system, then when put on another system using an adapter, it would not be reconized.

Thank you Atomic Rooster. I think you may be right. I'm off to get a serial mouse... Hi Ho Hi Ho...
PS. I just had a full realisation of the difference between Serial and PS/2. Check out this site if you are interested: Google kicks ask! Google Anonymously Kicks Ask! (http://www.naijiw.com/connector/admouseps2s.html) .

I can't see any problem with the HTML code in the above post. If anyone can please let me know. This one should work a little better *hopefully*.

Possibly a 250 character limitation in SysOpt? I will continue this discussion in the Programming and Web Development Forum?
Please ignore the following test links, they do not lead anywhere:-----------------------------------------------------

Opps, over 180 chars (http://http:www.nowhere.never.land.link.com/test/test/test/test.html&h=65&w=84&%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%&&&%%%%%%%%%)

has a SPACE in the URL, which is why it didn't connect correctly... look at:

mo use

where there is a break. Close it up in the address bar, and it works, but it still won't copy correctly when trying here...

Google kicks ask! (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.naijiw.com/connector/images/condsub9f.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.naijiw.com/connector/admouseps2s.html&h=65&w=84&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmo use%2B9%2Bpin%26num%3D20%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff).

I guess some UBB just doesn't like some URLs, maybe it doesn't like some characters like & or %, or maybe a later UBB version has a fix for the issue. Lots of maybes, I really don't know...

You're right Socalgal, my bad, there was a space. But there was no space in the code for both hypothetical urls in the post directly above your post that starts "One last time..."
Each of those are identical in content, the second one is simply about 10 characters less than the first. That means you have to keep your urls under 180 characters... A trivial issue, mildly problematic.
