I want to buy a new 40-60 Gig hard drive but have a few ?'s.

Will it work with my HP 4533 Pavilion 450mhz?

If it works with what I have will it work if I decide to get a new mobo/cpu combo?

Just how versitile are they?

The speed, plugs/wire's, rpm's etc. How much of this stuff do I have to know regarding weather or not it will work on my present system and/or an upgraded system?

Thanks for reply's!

Yes, it will work. You'd need an IDE hard drive, and it will be compatible with newer components. The RPM's is simply up to you, the 7200 spin is going to be a bit faster thanthe 5400, but also mroe expensive. To be completely sure, just phone HP and ask them. They would be HAPPY to help you with any questions. If you decide to upgrade other things besides the hard drive, change out your case and other components as well. In the industry now, it's easier to say "I have a 450 mhz processor on a XXX motherboard with XXX amount of ram" than saying "I have an HP 4533."

check with HP that you have the latest bios update in order to make sure it will support a drive that large. im most cases you shouldnt have a problem but you never know.
other than that issue i dont think you will have a problem.
