I have some old 8 mm and super 8 films - about 2 hours of family movies. Is there any way of converting these and saving on CD or DVD. I have tried searching the internet but can find no information. I reckon it should be possible to scan the film image by image and convert to MPEG (?).

You need some sort of hardware like Dazzle to be able to hook your 8mm camcorder to you system. It will convert to several different dile types and then you can burn it to cd. You may need to contact your camcorder manufacturer for a cable though, I'm not sure if Dazzle or other hardware devices use generic cables or not.
Good luck.

It's not 8mm video. It's real old fashioned 8mm cine film like they used to use in the 50's. These films are really old and I am afraid they will deteriorate if I don't do something. I have already converted to Video but the reduction in quality is mqassive. I need something that goes directly from film (scanner) to digital.

Thanks for your help. If I understand correctly, the Telecine must convert to a Video format which can then be converted to a digitally compressed format. There must be a tremendous market out there for a simple gadget to scan the film frame by frame and stitch the frames together digitally.
