Can you use a Raid controller card just to add more IDE harddrives? And also if you do set up this controller card up as as Raid 1 (mirroring) can the harddrives used in the Raid configuration be used as a regular IDE drive if you decide to change back?
Thanks
Yes, it's possible to run and boot HD set on primary RAID channel, however, what mobo do you have ? I have Abit KT7A-RAID with Highpoint370 RAID and having my primary IBM DTLA 75GXP 45GB single on RAID, without making an array, but heard that doing such a thing on Promise based RAID is a little bit more complicated.

I have run the Promise raid controller with one drive (also IBM) with no problems. The manual for my Abit Hot Rod 100 Pro controller says single hard drive operation is no problem, but does not recommend connecting cdroms, writers or zip drives to the controller. That is no problem since you can just use the onboard controllers for that.
