IBM Laptop won't stay on

Laptop would power on and POST and then Win95 would try to start and it would shut itself off.

I thought that it might be software related at first so I booted up and entered the BIOS. Same thing.

Then I figured it was the battery (running out of juice), so I plugged it into the AC adapter. Same thing. So I decided to remove the battery. Same thing.

What gives? Anyone seen this before? Could it be something wrong with internal power system aside from the battery?

Certainly could be. Might also be a bad motherboard, or component attached to it (like a capacitor), or an overheating CPU.

My bet is the voltage regulator.
