I have just installed a removable harddrive and have it on the same channel as my DVD drive. I have a switch on the DVD drive so that it can be switched on or off so that it is not on everytime my puter is turned on because I really don't use it tha too often.
The problem is that if the DVD switch is turn on when the puter is turned on it dectects the DVD drive as the master but not the harddrive, but when the DVD is turned off it will detect the harddrive as master. The DVD is now attached as the master on a UDMA66 cable. Is there a way for both of these devices to exist on the same cable? Is there a better way of doing this? BTW I already have two hardrives on the other channel so it is not available...

Thanks

Yes....Set the jumpers on the back of one of the devices to SLAVE. You can not have 2 master or 2 slaves sharing the same cable.

Why can you not believe that 2 devices set as master on the same cable would be the case?

I have found that usually 85-90% of problems with PC's are from human error. If a customer calls in saying "My monitor does not work", Though it might seem obvious the first question I would ask would be to make sure the power on the monitor has been turned on next is the power cable attached and next is the monitor VGA cable connected to the PC? After eliminating these 3 easy errors can we move onto further troubleshooting.

Not knocking you but your recommendation to go out and spend more cash on an item that may not be needed without any previous troubleshooting does not seem to be a viable solution.
