...have stockpiled supplies in anticipation of Y2K problems?
...are planning to top off their gas tank "just in case"?
...have taken ANY other unusual steps to combat possible problems?

Junior Member? What's that Algee7? I plan to top off the tank and grab a little cash to live on just in case. I am going to look out for posts from guys like Welsh Wizard to see how things go on the other side of the world too.

I've got about 250Litres of fresh drinkable water down in my basement, 2 dozen candle lights, 6 cases of soda drinks, 1 propane cooker w/8 extra propane tanks (for cooking food and as a source of heat), 50Litres of gasoline, 2 flash lights ready to go w/20 extra batteries, lots of dry storable food, basic medicine, radio, band-aids, and not to forget a bit of cash on hand.
The canadian government says they're all ready, but you know how trustworthy government words are, so I'm not takin' any chances.
Another thing that's nice to know is that my cash is probably gonna be safe in my bank as the Bank Of Canada just announced a couple of days ago it just infuses about $20 billion dollars into the Canadian banking system so its not very likely they'll be running short on cash anytime soon.
Somebody correct me on the amount though, as I may have had ear wax in my ear when I hear the news.
I'd like to know if others are as prepared as I am or are you guys Y2K nonbelievers or are procrastinators?
Of course, it would be the biggest gift of all for everbody in this world during this holiday season if Y2K is a non-event.
The gift of life, that is.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just another day, just like the day of the Northridge earthquake ~ epicenter 7 miles from home. This too shall pass.

Most of you will get 18 hours warning if any thing is wrong, if I don't post then either the powers out,the net's out, or some one just dropped a nuke on Auckland.

I have faith in greed - U.S. companies won't drop a beat for more than a day. So - I've got some water tucked away at the house and will top off the gas tank, but that's about it. After all, I'm working that night and the office will cater the event. Other than that, I'm charging my flash-light batteries and have a cord of wood at the house if things go really bad.
I am going to lock myself in my closet and drink myself into the fetal position until the year 2050 at which time I will wake up from my frozen slumber and become a pilot in the world defense league. Then I will find a hot baby in tight close and a little metal guy with whom I will befriend and fight off some space pirates......
Oh wait thats wrong well at least the closet part. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Well here in the UK its life as normal except for adds telling people not to stockpile food , take all your savings out of the Bank etc , me I've got extra food and money but this little article says it all..
Retailers were hit by the first major strike of the Millennium Bug today as thousands of credit card swipe machines failed because they did not recognise the year 2000 date.
Mainly smaller shops starting up after the four-day Christmas break were affected by the glitch in equipment supplied by HSBC, one of the UK's big four banks.
A spokesman for HSBC, formerly known as Midland Bank, said: "The problem has arisen because these new swipe card terminals, installed in the summer, have a look-ahead facility spanning four working days.
"When they looked ahead and compared, say, December 28 1999 with January 1 2000 they thought something was wrong and failed to function because they read the second date as January 1 1900.
"This problem will disappear when we get to January 1 because the terminals will be comparing January 1 2000 with January 5 2000 - both in the same year - and will see no problem with that.
"The number of terminals involved is 20,000, of which 14,000 are supplied by us and 6,000 by other banks."
makes you wonder when everything was
Millennium Bug checked
Somewhat
All vehicles will be full
Not really
I'm not expecting there to be any real problems - let's hope. I'll be looking for WW's post! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I can't say I've stockpiled supplies, but I do have enough food and water to survive a few weeks on hand. I live in the mountains, so this is an ordinary thing.
I always keep my car full, since my car won't hardly pass a gas station (high performance Firebird). http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
As for other precautions, I can't really think of any. I plan to kick back and relax New Year's Eve, and hopefully catch up on my lack of sleep over the Christmas holiday.

I've got a cord of wood stacked up on my patio, lots of canned goods, ammo for the SKS, propane cook stove and spare fuel, 10 gallons of gas in cans and full tanks, plenty of flashlight batteries, and several gallons of drinking water bottled up. Of course this is exactly the same as things always are so I'm not really making a fuss. With the unstable power in my area, it pays to be prepared all the time anyway. I have not even Y2K checked my computers, though I will be giving special care to the NetWare 4.1 server I run. If you've ever rolled back the date on a NW41 box and had to repair the NDS tree because of it, you know why. It is a big pain. I figured I'd just hang out at home, watch the news to see where the riots are, and maybe set off some fireworks when the moment arrives. No big deal.

I have a case of baked beans, I figure before I polish those off, my wife will have found anopther source of food for us.
If the Y2K bug hits for real, I won't have any reason to drive anywhere (plus sounds like good excuse to sham out of work.)
I did stock up on Jack Daniels, but don't know how much help it will be to fend off disaster, just help with blissfull ingrorance.

I am saving my 1 drink allowed for after midnight http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif. BTW Socalgal found my sleever glass so I am set for a good shot of old Kentucky Red Eye to bring the NY in http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
The power companies down here are all advertise that there won't be any problems, but then add as it will be a Friday night which normally attracts the Drunk Drivers To Their Power Poles, and this being a 1 in a 100 event they may find more power poles knocked over than normal, but they have made all staff stay on call to fix them so if power goes out it's not Y2K bug just another bug that drunks hitting the power pole.
