I have a Zoom 56k external Dualmode model 2949 and allthough it's a quite old modem, it worked perfectly so far.
For a week or so I am experiencing the following issue: After I dial, it starts connecting, but i don't get a carrier detect signal..the CD led remains black while in the dial-up window "Dialing..." is displayed and after a short while i get a reason like "disconnected from the computer you dialed". After several attempts, I eventually get connected, and everything runs smoothly.
I changed my isp twice. Is my modem broken or something??

Call your ISP tech support and have them walk you through everything. Sounds like a configuration problem to me.

Hello,

You can check your modem by dialling any telephone number (Accessories –> telephone dial or similar) and if it works fine, then probably you have a problem with internet connection settings.

i am now on a third isp, same problem when dialing..the **** CD (carrier detect) won't lit. this ain't no configuration problem..i tryied using the v.34 standard (thought v.90 was maybe too much??) but the same thing happens..i get carrier detect after 5 or 6 dial attempts. i called my (former) isp, and the guys there said "change the **** modem".
i'm puzzled.
