abit kt7e
amd athlon thunderbird 900
256 pci133
gforce 2 mx 400

when we start for the first time we are getting a continues beep and no post.

tryed different ram pc100 in slot 1 and got no beeps but still no post put the 256 ram back in slot 2 and got the beeps back still no post.

Checked to make sure everything is seated correctly it all loks hooked up right.

stuck for what to try next.

any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if the beep code is the same for all boards with Award bios chips or not, but for an Iwill...continous short beeps indicate a power supply problem. Long continous beeps mean Dram is not inserted correctly.

Re same computer (ltaylor was kind enough to post this question for me as my working computer was down at the time)

The thermistor was bent down in order to seat the cpu, after no post, I bent it up again without results.
question: Do I need to replace heatsink as AMD book recommends or can I use thermal paste and reinsert cpu/fan.
