1. Albert Einstein

socalgal, Michael Jordan? Come on... Gretzkey had a much bigger impact both in and outside of his sport. Just a Canadian's opinion... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

The other three sound good though.

i think the most important event this century was world war 2. so many technological advances came about, some good, such as the jet, others not. i believe we all know which one is the worst...

Wiz - are you on about the Volkswagen Beetle?

Actually, I guess that has helped with air cooling techniques so therefore helping me make my cpu go faster, so I guess I dont actually have a leg to stand on here!

Well, can I do these out of order?

I think the event of the century was the fall of the Berlin wall. Of course, the space program and the subsequent landing on the moon was supremely important. But the breakdown of communism, and the tearing down of the Berlin wall, in my humble opinion, had a greater impact on the world as a whole.

How about the athlete? I'd have to say Mohammed Ali. He was a super athlete, a great humanitarian, and he gets my vote.

The man of the century, how about Jonas Salk?I have always admired Einstein, but Salk gave us a vaccine for a dreaded disease, that is all but gone now. If Einstein hadn't come around, we may never have had the atom bomb (hmm something to think about!)

Woman of the Century: Hmmm good question. Mother Theresa obviously comes to mind. Winnie Mandela, Princes Di, Elanor Roosevelt, Barbara Bush, I don't know. And I feel very bad about that...

So there you have it from an uninformed, unaware individual.

Hoping you all have a great new year,

Mike P.

Albert Einstein...(without him...you would not even be reading this, and the Jap's would never have bombed PH)

Amelia Earhardt...brought fantasy/suspense/trauma to flight...

TarZan...had the biggest impact on my life!

Landing on the Moon! We had wars and evil empires throughout the history of civilization...so no war type event can compare with such a feat as leaving the planet!

1. agree with Einstein
2. unsure
3. C'mon folks! nobody said Mark McGwire yet! Breaking the world's most coveted athletic record has to be it!! Two years in a row over the old record! And a great guy too from all accounts... ****
4. WWII / dropping of atomic bomb

***may be a little biased as a St Louisan who feels that there are only two sports - Youth League ball & Cardinal baseball (in that order!!)

Man of the century?
For the good guys I'd dare not say one advance is better than another.
For the bad guys....I think Hitler had the most effect, be it negitive, on the world in this century.

Woman of the century? Pam Anderson... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif jk.
Motherer Teresa gets it even though she wouldn't want it.

Athlete of the Century?
I have a tie
Micheal Jordan for what he could do an Jessy Owens for what he did do.

Event of the Century?
Aug. 6th 1945....the bombing of Hiroshima.

I've always had a difficult time choosing between men http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif so here goes my list as is:

1.Thomas Edison/Upton Sinclair

2.Betty Friedan

3.Jim Thorpe/Mildred Didrikson Zaharias

4.D-Day

The other threads on here have me wondering if I shouldn't switch Edison for Tesla.

T. Edison?!? Oh puh-leez. I'm pretty confident if you (and most of America) knew the truth of Edison vs. Tesla, there is no way you could ever have an ounce of respect for Mr. Edison. He is a royal dickhead (pardon my French).

Does the meltdown of the world on the first of next year count? After all, it will still be 1999 many places when it is 2000 here.

I prefer to think on a grander scale. My picks for the MILLENIUM:

1) William the Conquerer

2) Joan of Ark

3) Have no idea

4) Widespread use of the printing press in Europe

5) WORST EVENT- The Crusades
