when i turn on my daughters computer nothing happens. the american megatrends bios info appears along with the "energy star" logo but thats about all that happens. the cursor just sits there and blinks,
Any help would be greatly appreciated

We need more info like:

(1) Can you get access to your bios setup? if so, try first to check the boot sequence and verify if the bios can identify the hard drive (hard drive detection);
(a) Verify that you have the Ide 1 and Ide 2 enable. These settings are for the onboard ide controllers. If they are not enabled, you can boot the machine;
(2) Can you boot from the A floppy? If you can boot from the floppy, you may try the following options:
(a) can you get access to c> from a>?
(b) can you run fdisk or fdisk/mbr?
(c) can you copy sys over the c>?
(3) How old is the computer? You may have an old motherboard battery. When the battery gets old won't allow you to boot.
(4) Open the computer and check all the cable connections and power connections.
