I had been having some problems entering setup on my computer.(phoenix BIOS ROM Plus!) finally I was able to put it on the network so I could download an upgrade setup. My problem is once I corrected the changes I recieved this message at boot "Hard disk 2 failure
Missing Operating System"
Please help. Original OS is Windows 95

My guess is that this is nothing more than a bios setup problem.

Check to make sure that you have the hard-drives correctly identified and configured in the bios/cmos setup, and then look to see if you modified the boot order at all.

It sounds to me like the CMOS setup is telling your PC to boot from a drive on the 2nd physical hard disk. Its possible that the 2nd hard disk partition is not active, and that it does not contain an Operating system. Not at all unusual in a two drive system.

Take a look and check the CMOS again, and please let us know if you make any progress or if you have more questions.

Thanks Target for the rapid reply. the previous problem I was having was entering my setup. How would I enter my CMOS because I am (was) not recieving any command on how to enter setup.Example F1 or DEL. Can I reset my CMOS another way?

Some motherboards have jumpers on them that will allow you to reset the CMOS. You'll have to either look in your manual, check with the manufacturers technical support web site, or provide the make and model number here so we can advise further.

As for entering the bios setup, I am surprised that there isn't something like F1 or DEL that displays. If not, try holding down a key on the keyboard while powering it up. The ESC key is a good choice. That should produce a keyboard error, and trip the process to enter the bios setup.

Good luck, and let us know how its coming along.

Happy joy I have found my CMOS Setup which had the hotkey sequence of CTRL + ALT + ENTER but now I get the error message "Hard disk drive 1 failure Missing Operating System"
Instead of Hard disk drive 2. After making the correction of course.
