Well, looks like I'm changing jobs, and will be travelling more, so I need to get a notebook computer. I think I've narrowed my list down to Gateway and Dell (unless others can sell me on a Sony, Compaq, etc...)

I'll be running your typical spreadsheets, word processing apps, and would like to also be able to watch DVD's and play games if possible...

The Dell 7000 Inspiron series and the Gateway 9300 Solo series look pretty good to me...Do you think I would see much difference between a celery 433 and PIII450 as far as DVD and gaming (LinkLS, Half-Life, UT if possible)??

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated...Thanks! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've had a Gateway 9100 for about two years now. No real problems. Take a look at Gateway's Refurb site. They sell their shipment-refused stuff there. It's new, but since it has been out the door, they can't sell it as "new". But they have torn it down, rebuilt, and retestd it.

And be sure you get the Gateway Gold extended warranty. Saved my **** a few times on my other systems.

That's my opinion. Yours free (w/ $2345.82 s/h)!

If you never had a laptop, you might be in for a surprise. They are slow and their performance is disappointing at best. It really depends on what games you want to play on it too. If you want to get one, in my opinion, go with a Toshiba. Nothing like them out there. Seeing how I configure and rebuild laptops too, I'm able to see a lot of different brands out there.

I use a Toshiba in the Plant floor at my job, this machine takes a lot of abuse, been working without a hitch for almost two years now.

My mother has a Toshiba and has had good luck with it also. The only thing is her dog broke the screen!
