Ok here are the specs...

Soyo 5ema Pro
AMD K6-2 500 Mhz
128mb pc 133
30gb Quantum Fireball
Visiontek GeForce 2MX 400
Philips Acoustic Edge
12xDvd/32xCd

The system was fine with a 16mb ati xpert...now with the new card 3d is very choppy and things a randomly crashing but mostly in games.

I'm at my wits end. Ive got the latest drivers for everything and its still crappy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The sleep depravation from trying to get this going is starting to get to me!

Hi Moparboy

Forgive me if I state /ask the obvious.

It is recommended that when you change a video card that you uninstall the drivers after setting/changing the "adaptor" in Windows to the Standard VGA.

When you insert the new card PnP will go into action asking for the drivers etc.

I suppose what is possible is that you may have "residues" of the old drivers conflicting with the new.

I suggest you boot into safe mode and look in the device manager for Display Adaptors and check if the old one is still listed - if so remove. You need safe mode for this as it will show all duplications etc I was surprised when I checked mine system this way.

I hope my tuppence worth is of help.

Does that Soyo board have onboard video?..a lot of Soyo boards do, and there is no jumper or bios feature to disable the onboard video that I have seen on a few Soyo boards. If this is the case, go into Device Manager and put a check in the box to disable it in this hardware profile, for the onboard video. In bios, I had to change the video from AGP to PCI also.

I guess I should have mentioned this too...
but I got the the hard drive the same day as the card and did new install of windows. But windows did recognize the visiontek as a standad pci card so I will check on that.

I also do not have onboard video.

I was curious I was looking at the box for the card yesterday about the sys. requirements. It said something about an agp 2.0 expansion slot...so I check my mother board manual and it says its agp 1.0 compliant. Is this the problem?
