Hello all. Can anyone please tell me what Distributed Com Services is and why it keeps trying to connect to the Internet? I have the latest version of ZoneAlarm and even though I deny DCS access to the Net, it still appears in the program list. Also, is this anything to do with a file called rpcss.exe which occassionally hangs, preventing my pc from booting up? Using netstat -an I notice that various ports seem to be open when I am connected to the net. Is there any way I can remove these rogue programs? Any input would be gladly appreciated.

I have this file also, but it dosn't come up in ZoneAlarm. The file is located in Windows\System. If you look for it (rpcss.exe) amd right click it, look at properties, then the version tab. Mine is version 4.71.3328, Distributed COM Services, Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. 1981-1998.
Apparently it is a Microsoft file, but I don't have a clue what it is or does. I tried to run it from its location in Win\Sys, and got some kind of dos window, and ZoneAlarm wanted to know if I wanted to let it access the net, which I said no.
Ok, when I just went back to ZoneAlarm, Distributed COM Services was in the list. I right clicked it and selected remove...so, now its gone from ZA..You might try that yourself
