I just built this system
Epox 7KXA
K7 650
256 M pc133
40gig IMB

I only start with the sound at boot and just had IE up and tried to bring up another IE when I got the warning. The other day I ran system monitor and had 8 programs up with no problem. Is this a leak and if so is it in the ram or MB?

Thanks

Are you managing your swap file? If the settings are too low, you'll get this error.

With 256Mb of ram it's not that necessary to have a swap file. I've set the swap file usage to conservative (have also 256) and it's not until I have both my monitors full of **** the swapfile is used (fixed size at 160mb).

Well thanks for the reply. I have never managed the swap file; I have been letting win's do that.

I plan to check out the links jmatt has posted and maybe start to manage the swap file.

I removed the 2 sticks of 128 pc133 and replaced them with a stick of 64 pc100. Right now with IE on and in sysopt, my OE running and ICQ up. I have 75% free in my system properties/performance.

I think that one of the pc133 was leaking memory. I had a rounded IDE cable running close to the memory, I wonder if that could have caused some interference

Thanks for the help. I will try the 128 sticks one at a time and see if the problem comes back or even if it has left. Not sure yet. Three days ago I ran for 4 hours with no problem.

Well throw that thery out the window. For a will it went well. Did a restart and now it is back. NOT ENOUGHT FREE MEMORY!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I have now installed 320mb of pc133 and I will go studing the links jmatt posted. see if I can learn to manage memory.

As the big guy said I"LL BE BACK

Add to the problems.

I am running Resource Meter and it showes 94% free and all I have run is IE. I go to my comp. to check on the performance and I get ACCESS DENIED.

Edit:
I have read most of the links and they all tell me the same that I should be seeing a loss in system recourses and I do not. Yet I still get the crash. So I go to Epox web and see that I can pretty much stick the board in a dark place, they will not help. This is not going to get them comeback customers.

Edit2:
Epox is proving to be a disappointment. It will not even access the A: drive to let me flash the bios

It is not a memory problem and it is not a resource problem.

It will louse access to A:\ and even tell me access to My Computer/ Properties denied. It will serf the net and then loads a blank screen. Hit refresh and the screen might bring up some but not all of that page and with color bites simmered. I have changed video cards with the same results.

I cleared the bios and gained access to a:\ and updated the bios with no improvements. Epox offers no help and since I bought this board at Ebay the 15-minute warranty is up.

I think that it can be fixed but have run out of directions. Any new paths to try?
Thanks
Bruce
